Coffee Coffee Coffeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Coffee and flowers espresso moka pot

Hey Guys and Dolls,

Let’s talk about java! It’s a warm delicious, chocolaty yumminess that gives you a boost of energy and helps to kick start our day. It is quite lovely in the morning and is the first thing most of us want to wake up to. Some of us can’t start our day without it.

I’m not a big fan of the mass packaged coffees,I think they taste like sludge and lets face it who wants to drink sludge? (Not me! Yum? No! Yuck!!!)

I’m also not a big fan of Starbucks coffee. I know what your thinking “crazy lady , Starbucks coffee is awesome!” We will have to agree to disagree on this one. I do however love their mini vanilla scones and black ice tea so no need to tar and feather me. 😉 If you can find amazing coffee locally or purchase an inexpensive moka pot, you can make much better tasting brew. (Promise!)

The best cup of coffee I ever had was at the Salt lake Roasting Company Coffee Shop, it was from a small plantation on slopes of Mount Barú in Western Panama named La Esmeralda. My mouth dropped to the floor when the Lady helping us quoted the price. It was 45 dollars a pound!!! (Gasp)  Needless to say, I was a bit crushed, as that is astronomically out of my budget for coffee. Money doesn’t grow on trees….

Coffee can be an amazing  magical experience if you do it right…….

To make an exquisite cup off coffee, I recommend whole coffee beans and a coffee grinder, trust me it makes a difference.

The great thing about picking your own beans is you can often buy it in bulk and get small amounts of different coffees from every part of the world. Find what you love!

My current favorite is an organic Peruvian coffee. The taste is sweet and chocolaty and has a banana aftertaste.  (Although that could just be me, as my husband always tells me,I’m loony!) Also it’s acidity is low, I’m not a big fan of coffee that has a lot of acid, it upsets my stomach.

For espresso style coffee, I recommend a Moka coffee pot, it makes coffee/espresso by passing hot water, pressurized by steam, through tightly packed ground coffee. I love, love my Moka pot. When I want to have an espresso or a latte, this is what I use. They also look amazing in your kitchen and come in a variety of different styles. The Bialetti man with the mustache and tuxedo always makes me smile. My husband is a burly bearded grizzly bear and when he drinks espresso it is quite a silly sight. He likes it straight and the espresso cups are like tiny tea cups and he always drinks it with his pinkie finger up, just like a proper gentleman. Since he is a mountain man I can’t help but laugh. FYI ladies a man who can make you laugh, makes life amazingly enjoyable, if you can find that, I suggest you put a ring on it!!! 🙂

A couple things about the Moka pots, if it’s new it will have to be seasoned, you need to make a couple pots of espresso before it can make great espresso, I do not recommend you drink the first couple of pots it will taste like metal and sludge. Yum? No! Never ever wash it, just rinse it with hot water after each use to keep it clean, the trick is to keep it seasoned with espresso, the more seasoned it gets the better the espresso. My favorite brand of espresso is Lavazza Crema E Gusto and my favorite maker of Moka pots is Bialetti.

Here are a couple tricks and recipes:

Foam sugar:

Foam Sugar espresso moka pot

I use this when I make straight espresso, take about 4 tablespoons of sugar and put it in an espresso cup or small glass. Start your espresso, you have to watch it because you need the first drips of the espresso, about 1.5 tablespoons. As soon you see the espresso coming out pour it in the sugar, and whisk/stir till it becomes a creamy consistency. Add a teaspoon or 2 (more if you like it sweet) to your cup of espresso and it will foam up, it looks cool and adds sweetness. I think it makes the espresso amazingly Delizioso!

espresso cup saucer foam sugar moka pot

1/2 of cup of half and half (or milk if you want to cut calories)

2 shots of espresso

3 table spoon of sugar or to desired sweetness.

Your favorite mug

To steam the half and half or milk without a fancy/expensive espresso steamer. Just add it to a small pot on the stove and whisk, whisk, whisk as it heats up. It comes out frothy and delicious!

Pour espresso in your mug, add sugar and the steamed half and half; Stir and enjoy!

Have a cup of java with a scone or biscotti cookie and enjoy! Salute!!!

Ciao Darlings! (*^3^)/

  1. I love coffee!!! I really like the intricacies within a single bean. Take green Sumatrin beans. You can lightly roast it and get a bright floral flavor, roast it longer, darker, and you get deep bitter robust flavor.
